How to create an annotated Bibliography

Sample annotation of a review article:

Cite the article in APA Style and provide the link for the reader:

Lewis, D. G. M., Al-Shawaf, L., Conroy-Beam, D., Asao, K., & Buss, D. M. (2017). Evolutionary psychology: A how-to guide. American Psychologist, 72, 353–373. LINK

Describe the main ideas, arguments, themes, theses, or methodology, and identify the intended audience.

This is a review of methods used in the field of evolutionary psychology. The intended audience are psychologists engaged in research and interested in evolutionary themes. The article explains the additional steps taken at each stage of the research process in psychology. NOTE: For empirical articles, note the participants, measures used if relevant, and results.

Compare to other sources on the same topic that you have also cited to show similarities and differences.

This is a more advanced but more detailed guide for how to actually do research within the subfield.

Explain why each source is useful for your research topic and how it relates to your topic.

This article will be great for a capstone topic at the beginning of the process but may be too involved and technical for students in a course who may or may not do research in the foreseeable future in psychology.
