AI-powered target selector

AI-powered target selector

This is a chatbot programmed to suggest targets for observation. It is an experimental module – so no warranty – but demonstrates some of the emerging power of AI to help further automate and streamline observing with our telescope system. As we develop more experience, we will deploy a more capable AI-powered observing assistant – and it will work with students and collaborators to design observing scripts (or ACP plan files) to provide automated sequences of observations for the evening. Stay tuned!

Please ask your question to our AI (chatGPT) bot for helping with selecting observing targets! The chat window above is ready for you to use! It uses the code below (the URL in the code can also be used separately). A sample query that should work well would be:

“using the site https://theskylive.com/whatsvisible create a plan for the best astronomy targets for observation tonight. Please select the top 10 objects to observe using 1 asteroid, 1 comet, 3 nebulae, 2 planets, 2 galaxies, and 3 star clusters, and sort them in order of increasing right ascension Then use this to create a perfectly formatted ACP plan file for observing with the telescope for all of the objects, in order of increasing right ascension.”
