About Us
“Move toward a scenario in which individual students and universities connect with one another to form a web of networks supporting the UN, eventually permeating the entire globe. This is the future I envisage for renewed linkages between the UN, students and universities.”
The Student Movement for the Culture of Peace (SMCP) club was established in 2017 by students at the Soka University of America. Our club’s purpose is based upon the 2006 proposal for United Nations reform by Daisaku Ikeda, the founder of Soka University of America. In the proposal, Ikeda calls for “a student-centered network to support the UN.” This club is designed to create networks of global citizens who strive to actualize the culture of peace by supporting the UN actions. The purpose aligns with the mission statement of Soka University of America, embodying “a contributive life” through club activities. In practice, we focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Nuclear Disarmament and play the role of raising awareness of the importance of a sustainable future at SUA, in the local community and worldwide.

2006 Proposal Key Points
